Artificial Intelligence and Vloyen

"It's the future; it will change everything; It will be our doom."

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. - March 15, 2018 - s4story -- Proponents believe that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will provide answers to some of the most perplexing and complex questions we have.  It will revolutionize healthcare, scientific discovery, the business environment along with everything else. It already buys and sells stocks, determines airline seat and hotel room pricing, provides answers to your questions on your smart phones via Siri, Alexa, Cortana, Google, and more.

Its detractors believe that the coming explosion in AI systems will spell the end to life as we know it as these very capable, connected and incredibly fast systems out think us by thousands of times, taking control of this planet before we even know what's happening. They're raising the alarm with government, seeking controls and regulations, now, before we reach a point of no return.

The big question is: who's right?  Should we put the brakes on what could be a Godsend for the human race as AI systems help us eliminate poverty and disease?  Or, will an unbridled race to develop the most capable AI systems bring us to the brink?

AI vs AGI

Today's AI systems are narrowly focused.  They help cars drive, answer questions, etc. These very specific capabilities aren't of great concern to those expressing alarm.  What has the likes of the late Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk on the edge of their seats is Artificial "General" Intelligence or AGI. It's this type of all-encompassing artificial intelligence which has access to everything that's troubling.

How can we reap the benefits of AI without the risks associated with AGI? What if there was a better way?  What if we could achieve much of what we want, keeping AI in a box, limiting its capabilities while reaping many of its benefits?

Business seems to be the driving force behind AI, seeking to stay relevant in the coming decades with more efficient tools to manage their operations, customer relations, product development and more. If industry had a new way of doing business which provided huge productivity improvements without AGI that might give society time to better manage the development of AGI systems.

Getting from here to there

A recent 60 Minutes segment on Artificial Intelligence talked about the over 8,000 articles published every day in the medical community and how it's impossible for physicians to stay on top of the latest developments in their field. IBM says Watson (IBM's AI) can read those 8,000 articles and help physicians keep up-to-date on all the latest discoveries. On the one hand, this is a new and exciting capability, bringing a wealth of information to the fingertips of physicians, worldwide. On the surface, it would seem that Watson's ability to read and organize information is a sign of things to come. But, still, Watson is using a huge amount of horsepower to overcome an inefficient business model.

With Vloyen, a physician and a new medical device or procedure will connect, instantly, without the help of Watson and without the delay of months or even years before Watson's information arrives on scene. With Vloyen, those 8,000 articles will be routed to the exact reader/physician, in real-time. One can only imagine the implications of this type of information interchange.  It's game-changing and lifesaving!
