Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy David Kautter to Speak at TCPI's Annual Symposium

Tax professionals and policymakers come together at this next week's tax policy conference in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON - Feb. 8, 2019 - s4story -- The Tax Council Policy Institute (TCPI) announced today that David Kautter, Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, will join PwC's US Deputy Tax Leader and Washington National Tax Services Leader Pam Olson for a keynote conversation on Thursday, February 14th from 12:00 to 12:30 pm at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
"We are thrilled to have Secretary Kautter join PwC's Pam Olson, a former Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, for what will certainly be an interesting and timely conversation. His knowledge, expertise and role in the field of tax policy will bring a new level of excitement and substance to an already high-caliber program." said Lynda K. Walker, Esq., executive director and general counsel of TCPI.
In his role as Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, Mr. Kautter directs the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Tax Policy in developing, recommending, and implementing Federal tax policy on behalf of the Department. Previously, Mr. Kautter served as Partner-in-Charge of the Washington National Tax practice for RSM, an audit, tax, and consulting services firm. He was also previously the Managing Director of the Kogod Tax Center and Executive-in-Residence at the Kogod School of Business at American University (AU). Prior to his work at AU, Mr. Kautter spent over 30 years at Ernst and Young, including serving as Director of National Tax for over 13 years. Mr. Kautter also worked on Capitol Hill as Tax Legislative Counsel for former Sen. John C. Danforth of Missouri. He is a high honors graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received his J.D. from Georgetown Law Center.

The two-day TCPI symposium, "The evolving boundaries of tax," will bring together leading tax professionals and policymakers from government, academia and the private sector to explore emerging policy considerations, share insights and discuss the direction and impact of governments' assertions of taxing jurisdiction over businesses and activities crossing their borders.
Topics to be addressed at the TCPI symposium will include: the impact of new ideas (BEAT, Digital Services Tax, etc.) on the current state of affairs and future direction of the international tax regime); the current status of implementation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act; reactions to U.S. tax reform from our trading partners; and how governments are reconsidering their right to tax in the face of significant business and economic changes.
