Turn Your Attention into Advocacy at PoMo Art's Art Out Side

PORT MOODY, British Columbia - s4story -- Artist Garrett Andrew Chong returns to his Tri-Cities roots to unveil a powerful new climate art installation shaped by community voices. Eroded Origins: Speak For Me !—a 22-foot illuminated projection—emerges from a year of public engagement and dialogue, with feedback directly incorporated into the final work. The piece premieres for one day only, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at SiteB (3012 Murray Street, Port Moody), from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, as part of the PoMo Arts'  2025 Art Out Side Festival.

This site-specific work is part of Chong's growing Eroded Origins Project, an EcoArt initiative that uses light, land, and technology to amplify messages from the natural world. The projection, developed through multiple installations in BC uses large-scale visual storytelling to ask a vital question: If the forest could speak... what would it say?

Beyond the projection, visitors will be invited to join a day-long celebration of Art Out Side and ecological creativity. The SiteB July 27th program also includes a live DJ, interactive mural painting and the Eroded Origins' Climate Art Brainstorm, where patrons of all ages can share their own reflections and contribute their voices to a living archive of environmental stories. Participants are encouraged to state their age as part of a cross-generational dialogue exploring humanity's relationship to nature.

This interactive installation is part of the Art Out Side 2025, PoMo Arts' new multidisciplinary arts festival.

Chong's artistic trajectory has long explored the language of light and landscape. A fourth-generation Chinese-Canadian and honours graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design, his early black-and-white infrared photography evolved into a practice that now incorporates HDR digital illusions and auras within the natural world. Garrett Andrew Chong first gained broad attention at the 2022 Eastside Culture Crawl, where he was featured in Stir Vancouver's article "Five Eastside Culture Crawl Artists Using Technology to Catch Attention." His climate-centred installations were later profiled on CBC's On the Coast, in Vancouver Is Awesome and SFU Radio for their poignant depiction of BC's environmental stewardship policies.
