Ashot Ariyan Introduces Specially Commissioned Work, "Nashville Nocturne"
S For Story/10589162
Composer Ashot Ariyan announces his hauntingly beautiful "Nashville Nocturne", specially composed for the 2023 Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition's Audience Choice Award, for Young Musician II and Artist category competitors
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - s4story -- Management of the Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition, in collaboration with renowned composer Ashot Ariyan, today announced his specially commissioned work, "Nashville Nocturne", that competitors in the Young Musician II and Artist categories can opt to perform in order to compete for the $2,000 Audience Choice Award. Ariyan's work brings a remarkable modern twist to the Nocturne genre so beloved by Frédéric Chopin, whose genius produced more than 20 of these deeply personal gems.
In a video message released to the public today, Ariyan elaborated on the nature of this hommage to Chopin's style, combined with elements of Blues in honor of the Tennessee traditions that are native to the Competition's home state. He also mentioned the proximity of Nashville to Memphis, the traditional seat of blues, and discussed his thoughts on the correct rubato, intonation, and pedaling that he would prioritize in interpreting the work. He concluded by welcoming competitors to Nashville and conveying his and Competition Management's eagerness to hear performers play this work.
