Behind the Spine: Casa Carlini's Internship Program Brings Students Inside Independent Publishing
S For Story/10696260
NEW YORK - s4story -- Casa Carlini is proud to spotlight its publishing internship program, a hands-on educational initiative run in partnership with colleges, universities, and institutions around the world. Built to help students entering the publishing industry learn the fundamentals of the business, the program connects academic study to real editorial, operational, and creative work.
Based remotely out of New York and structured around a 10–12 week term aligned with academic calendars, the program offers professional exposure while remaining flexible for institutional credit requirements. Current internship openings span a range of functions — Administrative & Publishing, Book Cover Design, Book Formatting, Bookkeeping, Data Engineer, and Donor & Grant Development — reflecting the many disciplines that support a modern independent press.
More on S For Story
The program introduces students to how publishing actually works. Book Cover Design interns produce stunning covers that go on to appear on shelves in bookstores around the world — a tangible, lasting result of their work. Administrative interns work directly alongside the publisher and authors, following a book from concept to publication and gaining hands-on experience with contracts, marketing, and the many moving parts that bring a title to life. Across all roles, interns build practical experience that strengthens their academic training and readiness for careers in publishing, communications, design, nonprofit work, and adjacent creative industries.
Casa Carlini requires that internships be completed for academic credit or be formally sponsored by the student's institution. In some cases, schools may also provide a stipend, a model commonly used for credit-bearing placements. Casa Carlini works with students and institutions on all required paperwork to ensure the experience serves as both a genuine educational and professional milestone.

"Publishing is learned best not only from books, but from participation," said Charles Carlini, founder of Casa Carlini. "This program is about giving students a serious introduction to the industry — how books move from idea to finished object, how teams collaborate, and how creative work and business realities meet."
Students and institutions interested in learning more are encouraged to explore current openings and apply directly for the role that best fits their skills at https://casacarlini.com/pages/hiring/careers.
