Birmingham Writer Charleeta Latham Joins the Dear Black Woman Anthology

S For Story/10670758
A Birmingham voice honors a mother's legacy, rejects the "strong Black woman" script, and calls readers to joy and self-acceptance; national release September 20, 2025.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - s4story -- Charleeta Latham, a Birmingham writer, poet, and community arts organizer, is a contributing author in the forthcoming Dear Black Woman Anthology, a national collection of first-person letters by Black women to their younger selves and to one another. The book releases September 20, 2025.

Latham's letter reflects on losing her mother, the shared fear of living without her, and the quiet ways children learn to shrink under judgment. She writes about identity, faith, and the discipline of guarding one's heart and language. "I know who I am and I know my heavenly Father's voice… So, this world's projections, lies, and manipulating fail at every turn," she affirms.

She urges her younger self to "shake the dust," choose peace, and root joy where bitterness cannot grow. Her note widens into guidance for readers: some people lack the capacity to hold you; validation is not required for purpose; laughter heals; keep listening for the "still, small voice." The letter frames joy as resistance and insists that worth is not defined by others.

The anthology invites book clubs, faith communities, schools, and wellness programs to use story as a tool for reflection, vocabulary for feelings, and intergenerational guidance. Latham's community work and prior features for digital platforms align with that aim.
