Body Horror and Black Comedy Clash in Upcoming Graphic Novel 'Lizard World'
S For Story/10677189
A darkly comic, time-warping graphic novel of grotesque surgeries, brain transplants, and aristocratic horror from Terry Richard Bazes and Louis Netter.
s4story -- ST. JOHN'S, NL, CANADA, — Black Panel Press is proud to announce the upcoming release of Lizard World, a graphic novel by Terry Richard Bazes and acclaimed illustrator Louis Netter. Out July 21, 2026, the book blends gothic horror and grotesque satire in a surreal, time-bending narrative of identity, depravity, and dark humor.
In 17th-century London, grave-robber Josiah Fludd delivers a body to the infamous Earl of Griswold—who requires only her feet to replace his reptilian claws. Centuries later, New Jersey dentist Max Smedlow crashes in the Florida swamps and is abducted by Fludd's degenerate descendants. After a brain transplant gone wrong, Max finds himself trapped in the Earl's still-living body, battling for control against centuries of monstrous memories.
Originally published as a novel, Lizard World was praised by Library Journal as "a Florida gothic fable that both amuses and horrifies." The graphic adaptation is brought vividly to life by Louis Netter, whose scratchy, grotesque visual style evokes 18th-century caricaturists like James Gillray and comics pioneer Rodolphe Töpffer. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Library of Congress, and he currently teaches illustration at Portsmouth University in the UK.
