Sacramento attorney and Ventura County nonprofit leader bring insights and experience
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - s4story -- California Lutheran University's Board of Regents has appointed Attorney Melinda Guzman and longtime Ventura County nonprofit leader Kate McLean to its diverse board of thought leaders. The new members bring decades of legal, civic and nonprofit leadership experience to the university's governing body.
"The Board of Regents' focus is the success of Cal Lutheran and its students, faculty and staff," Ann Boynton, chair of the Board of Regents, said. "Kate and Melinda bring a deep commitment and desire to use their skills and experiences to support our mission. I am so grateful to them for their enthusiasm and look forward to working closely with them."
Cal Lutheran's Board of Regents provides oversight to the university, furthering its mission and strategic plan and strengthening the Cal Lutheran experience for all. Board members are appointed based on their subject-matter expertise to three-year terms and may serve up to four consecutive terms.

A first-generation college graduate, Guzman is a dedicated public servant who's committed to public education and governance. She is the CEO of the Melinda Guzman Professional Corporation, representing businesses and individuals in litigation, transactions and mediation. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Guzman to serve as a trustee of the California State University system. She was a commissioner on the California Postsecondary Education Commission and served on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. She earned her bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis.
McLean has a great deal of nonprofit leadership experience in Ventura County, both as the principal of Nonprofit Strategies and as a volunteer. She was the president of the Ventura County Community Foundation and executive director of Interface Children and Family Services. McLean is on the board of directors for the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and is a founding board member of KCLU Public Radio. She has served on the board of many community organizations, including The Museum of Ventura County and the Social Justice Fund of Ventura County. She has an MBA and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Cal Lutheran.
