Chula Vista Mayor Makes Commitment to Continuing Community Shuttle Service
S For Story/10683209
Mayor John McCann spoke with Congregational Tower's senior community about his commitment to continuing the shuttle service.
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - s4story -- Mayor John McCann recently visited Retirement Housing Foundation's (RHF) Congregational Tower to speak with residents and other riders of the Chula Vista Community Shuttle. The mayor expressed his commitment to continuing the service and spoke with residents who consider the shuttle to be a vital lifeline.
Funding for the shuttle service beyond June 2026 has not been secured, but the mayor stated that he is "committed to continuing the shuttle program." One rider told the mayor that her family spends $400 a month on Uber rides to get her to doctor appointments and said the shuttle "saved her life." Other riders shared similar stories.
Funded by a $1.1 million grant from local nonprofit, Community Congregational Development Corp. (CCDC), and a $1.5 million grant from Clean Mobility Operations (CMO), the shuttle service was launched in 2022 to create a cleaner, more sustainable community. The shuttle service operates an all-electric-powered fleet, including ADA-accessible vehicles. The service is free to those age 55 and older. The service was expanded to include adults 18 to 54 for $2 per trip in 2024.

The service has been very successful since its inception. Over the past three and a half years, the shuttle has served more than 100,000 passengers, driven more than 300,000 miles, and saved 18,500 gallons of gas and 165 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
