Denying parents and students access to educational choice is wrong

S For Story/10691949
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - s4story -- Statement from the Florida Charter School Alliance in response to the lawsuit filed by the Florida Education Association challenging school choice programs

It is disappointing to see the Florida Education Association continue efforts that would limit parents' ability to choose the best educational opportunities for their children. Critics of school choice are out of step with many of today's families, students, and educators.

For nearly three decades, Florida leaders have supported K-12 education by expanding quality school choice options, supporting historically underserved communities, and increasing teacher salaries. Today, nearly 500,000 students — about 14% of Florida's K-12 public school population — attend charter schools.

Florida charter schools have become an important part of the state's public education system, serving students in both urban and rural communities through a wide range of educational programs. According to the Florida Department of Education, charter schools earned an overall "A" grade on the state's 2024-25 assessment.

Continued enrollment growth and strong academic performance reflect charter schools' commitment to student success through innovation, data-driven instruction, and adaptive teaching strategies focused on supporting all learners. Parents should continue to have access to educational options that best meet their children's individual talents and needs.
