CHANDLER, Ariz. - s4story -- Dive into the captivating world of "Desert Friends," a heartwarming children's book by acclaimed author Linda Harkey. With captivating illustrations by Mike Minick, this engaging tale offers young readers aged 6-10 an unforgettable adventure filled with friendship and discovery of individuality.
Linda Harkey, known for her award-winning children's book series "Hickory Doc's Tales," draws her inspiration from a lifetime of experiences. As a devoted mother, Sunday school teacher, volunteer docent, and hunting dog owner, Linda's rich life has found its way into her writing. She has dedicated all her books to her family, including husband Mike and a cherished cast of her kids and her grandkids.
"My inspiration for all of my books definitely comes from the many years my husband, Mike (known as the Great One to the dogs), and I owned hunting dogs," Linda shares. "The memory of our dogs is preserved through my writing." Their adventures hunting quail in the Arizona Sonoran Desert provided a fertile ground for inspiration. The experiences of their dogs, including Tripod, who hunted with her husband, are woven into the narrative. "Tripod, one of the characters in 'Desert Friends,' really did hunt with my husband. Tripod was a great hunter and was truly three-legged."
