A Devistating Loss, an Ancient Prophecy, and a Young Man Struggling to Find his Place in the World
S For Story/10485686
SALT LAKE CITY - s4story -- A unique coming-of-age story about a young man dealing with the death of his mother and learning about his place in an ancient prophecy, "Seventh Generation" by Steve Prentice will be released by TouchPoint Press on July 16, 2021.
This debut novel brings Native American lore and other world mythologies to modern day America, using them to help the protagonist explore his past, the depth of his loss, and the world around him. As he searches for his place in the world, Trae's bond with the important male support figures in his life is strengthened by the world mythologies he's influenced by. Aspects of magical realism bring fantasy to a novel that deals with heavier themes, making it appeal to readers of young adult fiction and hard-hitting fiction alike.
About the Book
After his mother's death from cancer, Trae and his father moved into the city. It seemed all his father wanted was to get as far away from the reservation as possible, forgetting their life there and the heartache of his wife's death. Sometimes, it seemed to Trae, his father would like to forget him, too.
More on S For Story
Trae had been told by some of his teachers that he was "crazy." He had never believed them and told himself they just didn't understand him and were too lazy to get to know him. After coming face to face with Ela, one of the Little People of legend, Trae starts to believe maybe he is as crazy as they had always accused him of being. As Trae's friendship with Ela grows, his imagination becomes plagued by visions of burning rivers and a decaying world.
Is it an active imagination trying to come to grips with the death of his mother? Madness? Or an ancient prophecy coming to life?
Prentice places importance on growth in his debut, stating, "There are many books on the market that deal with loss and coming of age… 'Seventh Generation' uses Native American lore to explore not only the past of the protagonist, but to help him see a way to move forward and be a force for change in the world."
About the Author
Steve Prentice is a social worker, artist, photographer, and, now, an author. He lives with his wife, daughter, and two cats. When not writing, taking pictures, or creating art, he enjoys hanging out with friends and playing video games. "Seventh Generation" is his writing debut.
