A Dream Rooted in Love and Family
S For Story/10696818
HIGH POINT, N.C. - s4story -- Some dreams are grand adventures. Others are much simpler—but no less meaningful.
For Mary Morrison, a hospice patient at Providence Place in High Point, her dream was simply to go home one more time.
As Mary's health declined, she often spoke about wanting to spend time with her family in the place that held so many cherished memories. Home represented comfort, familiarity, and the people she loved most.
Because Mary is wheelchair-dependent and requires specialized assistance, transportation presented a significant challenge. Her family did not have access to a vehicle that could safely accommodate her needs, making the visit seem out of reach.
When Providence Place Director of Nursing Susan Carter learned of Mary's wish, she refused to let those obstacles stand in the way.
Believing every person deserves moments of joy and connection, Susan nominated Mary for the EveryAge Foundation's Grant a Dream™ program. For Mary, the dream wasn't about travel or adventure—it was about returning to the people and place she loved most.
With support from the Dream Team, Providence Place coordinated accessible transportation, staffing support, and every detail needed to ensure Mary could safely spend precious hours at home with family.

The team wanted the day to be more than a visit—they wanted it to be a celebration.
Flowers, a teddy bear, a beautiful cake, and a catered meal helped create a special gathering where Mary's family could focus on what mattered most: sharing stories, laughter, hugs, and treasured moments together.
Mary's family later shared photos from their visit and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Providence Place team. Their gratitude reflected a simple truth: sometimes the greatest gifts are not things at all, but moments of connection that remind us we are loved.
Because of the generosity of EveryAge residents, employees, donors, and supporters, Mary was able to return home, create new memories with her family, and experience the comfort of being exactly where she wanted to be.
At EveryAge, honoring the wishes of those we serve is about preserving dignity, celebrating life, and creating moments of joy. Mary's dream reminds us that the most priceless experiences are often the simplest: being home, being together, and being surrounded by love.
For Mary and her family, that day was far more than an outing—it was a precious gift of time, connection, and love. Those memories will last forever. Learn more at providenceplacenc.com
