Emmy-Winning Journalist José Martínez Releases Debut Book Your English is Great, But…
S For Story/10665335
NEW YORK - s4story -- Emmy-winning journalist and cultural storyteller José Martínez releases his highly anticipated debut book today:
Your English is Great, But… A Life Between Languages, Cities, and Grief
Now available on Amazon and VOZNYC.com (https://www.voznyc.com/), the bilingual memoir-in-essays explores what it means to belong when you're constantly being told you don't — especially in a country that praises survival but punishes difference.
Told through the lens of journalism, memory, and migration, Martínez's debut is a bold reclamation of language and identity, chronicling the moments that shaped him between the newsroom and the neighborhoods that raised him.
"This is the most vulnerable thing I've ever written," said Martínez. "It's for every kid who translated at the doctor's office, for anyone who's ever loved in Spanglish, or who's ever been told they had to shrink to fit in."
More on S For Story
The book is published under VOZ NYC, a new cultural imprint founded by Martínez to amplify intersectional, bilingual, and community-rooted stories.
"We created VOZ to champion the voices we didn't grow up reading," said the VOZ NYC editorial team. "José's book is more than a debut, it's a declaration."
Martínez shared a first look at the book during a VIP panel at the New York Mobile Film Festival, where he joined a lineup of creators discussing storytelling in television, representation, and reclaiming narrative power.
