Fair Trade LA, The Tote Project, and Fair Trade USA™ Distribute 100 "Fair Care Packages" to Families Affected by Los Angeles Fires
S For Story/10664827
LOS ANGELES, July 8, 2025 ~ Last month, the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles left many individuals and families without homes. In response to this tragedy, Fair Trade LA, in collaboration with The Tote Project and Fair Trade USA, came together to distribute 100 Fair Care Packages to those affected.
These packages were filled with self-care items from various Fair Trade brands, social enterprises, and local businesses. The goal was to provide comfort, dignity, and hope to those who are trying to rebuild their lives. Each item was carefully chosen to uplift the recipients and remind them that they are not forgotten.
Rebecca Dunn, Executive Director of Fair Trade LA, expressed the importance of this initiative in showing support for those who may feel overlooked during times of disaster. "When disaster strikes, it's easy for people to feel overlooked or left behind," she said. "We wanted each Fair Care Package to let people know that they are not forgotten, and there is a community of people who care deeply about your recovery."

The success of this project would not have been possible without the generosity of impactful brands who donated over $35,000 worth of products. Brands such as The Tote Project, e.l.f. Beauty, JUST ICE Tea, Numi Tea, Ten Thousand Villages, 7th Heaven Chocolate, TCHO, Sanders Candy, MADE by DWC, True Moringa, spaZa Store, COLOR WOW and Thumbprint Artifacts all contributed items to the Fair Care Packages.
These brands not only prioritize ethical production but also have a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable communities both locally and abroad. Michelle Chavez, Co-Founder of The Tote Project shared her gratitude for being a part of this project saying "Fair trade isn't just about how something is made; it's about who it impacts. We were honored to be part of a project that brought care and encouragement to our neighbors."
With support from Fair Trade USA, this collaborative effort highlights the growing role of conscious consumerism in crisis response and recovery. The Fair Care Packages serve as a reminder of the power of businesses, nonprofits, and local advocates working together to meet human needs with compassion and integrity.

Felipe Arango, CEO of Fair Trade USA, emphasized the importance of community in the Fair Trade movement. "The Fair Trade movement is rooted in community," he said. "Fair Trade USA has worked for years to not just build more equity for producer communities but also to support communities here in the United States in their advocacy for Fair Trade. When any of the communities we work with are strained and in need, we will always contribute what we can to provide support."
In a time where disasters seem to be occurring more frequently, this initiative serves as a shining example of how individuals and businesses can come together to make a positive impact on those in need. The Fair Care Packages not only provided practical items but also showed that there is a community that cares deeply about the well-being and recovery of others.
