Fiction Mirrors Reality as New Novel Exposes Catastrophic Shortcomings in Providing Ethical Treatment to Dolphins
S For Story/10569788
Author/Activist Homa Pourasgari brings awareness to issues surrounding the treatment of dolphins through her latest novel, The American Outsider, amid the current dolphin hunting season in Tajii, Japan.
LOS ANGELES - s4story -- Dolphin hunting is a horrific practice with unconscionable consequences for one of the most intelligent species in the world, with thousands caught and imprisoned or slaughtered each year. While there have been significant efforts to combat this practice over the decades, the issue remains a critical area of contention in today's world.
Author/activist, Homa Pourasgari brings this issue to the forefront with her upcoming novel, The American Outsider, the story of a veterinarian/activist Tessa, who travels to Japan to protest the slaughter of dolphins. She learns much about the Japanese culture as her eyes are opened to a society of deeply complex conventions and traditions. Inevitably, readers will come away with a new appreciation of the struggles to protect animals in our modern society. The author notes, "There are many ways to get involved as an activist. Some people protest on the streets, others write petitions and ask people to sign them. Artists convey their messages through their art. Activist musicians sing about it. I decided to write a story about it."
