Fort Collins Author Meisha Pon Joins the Dear Black Woman Anthology
S For Story/10671094
A letter on self-worth, asking for help, and guilt-free self-care; national release September 20, 2025.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - s4story -- Meisha Pon, a Fort Collins author and founder of MyCircle Retreats, is a contributing writer in the forthcoming Dear Black Woman Anthology, a national collection of first-person letters by Black women to their younger selves and to one another. The book releases September 20, 2025.
Pon's letter traces a common pattern—trading authenticity for acceptance—then lays out a different path. "Little by little, I traded authenticity for acceptance… I smiled when I wanted to scream. I agreed when I didn't. I laughed at things that hurt," she writes. She rejects the idea that unmet needs mean unworthiness, stating plainly that love begins with self-acceptance. She urges readers to ask for help, name emotions without apology, revise survival stories that no longer serve, and replace people-pleasing with honest care.
