From Teen Visionary to Entrepreneur: How Justin Calabrese Built Seven Businesses
S For Story/10675872
Teen entrepreneur Justin Calabrese built seven businesses before 30, turning real-life problems into global ventures.
HARTFORD, Conn. - s4story -- Long before most teenagers could decide on a college major, Connecticut native Justin Calabrese was already building an entrepreneurial legacy. Barely old enough to drive, Calabrese began transforming his ideas into thriving companies—coding websites in his parents' basement and shipping products across the country while his peers were still studying for their driving tests.
Calabrese's first venture began at just sixteen years old, sparked by a deeply personal experience. After his parents' home was vandalized following his sister's breakup, Calabrese saw a problem that demanded a solution. "If we were going through this, other families must be too," he recalled. When local police recommended installing CCTV systems to prevent further incidents, Calabrese recognized an opportunity that would change the course of his life.

That insight gave birth to JC Surveillance, his first official company—an online retailer specializing in affordable home and business security solutions. JC Surveillance offered CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and personal safety equipment, all meticulously curated by Calabrese himself. What started as a teenage idea quickly turned into a growing business serving customers nationwide.
Soon after, Calabrese identified another gap in the market: professional-grade training and recreational equipment. This realization led to the creation of HydroSplat, a company retailing water, paintball, and airsoft products designed for both enthusiasts and training professionals. The company exploded in popularity, reaching customers around the world and becoming one of Calabrese's most successful e-commerce ventures.
Over the next decade, Calabrese continued to expand his portfolio, founding and acquiring businesses across multiple industries. His ventures have included e-commerce platforms, media production companies, brand consulting agencies, and lifestyle retail startups—each born from his unique ability to spot consumer needs before they hit the mainstream.

In 2014, Calabrese made a strategic move that would underscore his business acumen: the acquisition of the intellectual property from a now-defunct national retailer. By reviving the brand and repurposing its digital infrastructure, he demonstrated a visionary knack for sustainability and innovation in the digital economy.
Beyond his ventures, Calabrese has shared his entrepreneurial wisdom through authorship. He is the author of two globally distributed books, available through Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Walmart, and other major booksellers. His works, "Mastering Momentum" and "Beyond the Barcode: Unlocking the Triggers That Turn Browsers into Buyers," offer insights into business growth, customer psychology, and the digital commerce landscape.
"Entrepreneurship was never just about making money—it was about solving problems and helping others do the same," Calabrese said. "Every venture I started was built around the idea that if something is affecting me or my community, there's probably a bigger need waiting to be met."
