10-Week HALO Program for Foster and Adoptive Children and Families

OKLAHOMA CITY - s4story -- Oklahoma City, OK – HALO Project continues its mission of bringing hope and healing to children and families impacted by trauma through its 10-week HALO Program, an intensive counseling program designed for foster and adoptive children and their families.

The HALO Program serves children ages 5–18 and is rooted in trauma-informed, attachment-based care. Over the course of ten weeks, families engage in therapeutic support designed to meet the emotional needs of each child, helping them move toward healing from emotional trauma. The majority of families who complete the program reach a level of healing that allows them to move forward without the need for additional mental health services.

During the most recent program cycle, HALO brought hope and healing to 34 families through its 10-week Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) intensive.

A defining component of the HALO Program is the role of volunteers known as Buddies. This cycle, 38 volunteers committed two hours each week for ten weeks to intentionally build connection with children participating in the program. These consistent, caring relationships play a vital role in helping children feel seen, safe, and valued.

"Our Buddies give something incredibly meaningful - their time and their presence," shared Delaney Ernst, Program Coordinator at HALO Project. "Week after week, we see children begin to trust, open up, and experience connection in ways that support their healing journey."

To honor the children who complete the program, HALO added handprints to a wall within its space. Each handprint represents a child who has graduated from the HALO Program, serving as a powerful visual reminder of growth, resilience, and the lasting impact of connection.

HALO Project's mission is to equip families and community partners with proven methods to work toward individual healing and disrupt the cycle of hurt in the community. The organization believes that when people are seen, heard, and valued, they not only survive - they thrive.
