High School Student Creates BayAreaChampion to Make Competitions Fair for Younger Kids
S For Story/10687648
A student from MSJH School launched BayAreaChampion to make competitions fair for younger students by organizing grade-specific contests. The student-led initiative now hosts Math, Science, and Reasoning championships with strong community support.
FREMONT, Calif. - s4story -- Many academic competitions group students across a wide age range, often placing younger students at a disadvantage when competing against older peers. Recognizing this challenge, Shireen Gupta, a student at MSJH School, decided to take action.
Shireen noticed that in many contests a third grader could be competing against a sixth grader while answering the same questions. Believing that this was unfair for younger students who have had fewer years of learning, she created BayAreaChampion, an initiative that organizes grade-specific competitions for students from 1st through 6th grade.

BayAreaChampion hosts contests across a variety of academic and skill-based areas. In 2026, the organization has already conducted championships in Math, Science, and Logical Reasoning. Upcoming events include a Spelling Bee, Academic Buzzer competition, and a Sports Championship.
Shireen runs the program with the help of her high school friends Arya, Mira, and Lucas, who assist with reviewing papers, running events, and managing social media.
The initiative is also supported by several community institutions, including Federation of Indo Americans (FOG), Ohlone College, Aria University, and India Community Center (ICC), which help provide venues and support for the competitions. The program also received encouragement through a partnership with the International Logic Olympiad, held at Stanford University, which served as a motivating milestone for the student-led team.

The effort has received strong appreciation from the community. Many parents have shared that they are happy to see their children learning topics appropriate to their grade level and gaining confidence through fair competition. The Logical Reasoning Championship in particular received enthusiastic feedback from families, with several parents noting that the reasoning and critical thinking questions turned into fun family activities at home.
To help students prepare, BayAreaChampion also organized six free preparation classes and provided study materials to guide students on the competition topics. Every participant received a participation certificate, encouraging students to continue learning and exploring new challenges.
BayAreaChampion will host its upcoming Finals for regional winners on April 19 at Aria University, followed by prize distribution for both regional and overall champions.
More information about upcoming programs is available at www.BayAreaChampion.com.
