CAMBRIDGE, Ohio - s4story -- From the author of Reader's Favorite Book Award Finalist, At Daddy's Hands, comes a dystopian adventure full of humor, heart, and a whole lot of guts — Sheltered: When a Boy Becomes a Legend by Jacob Paul Patchen will be released February 16.
Sheltered: When a Boy Becomes a Legend brings reality to children's backyard war games and hero fantasies. Set in rural Ohio with America under attack from within, twelve-year-old James - a humorous, insightful, and ultimately moral main character - must fight his way to freedom while trying to hold onto his values and virtue. The action-packed thriller brings in themes of unity and collectivism to create a heartfelt atmosphere perfect for middle grade boys and readers who enjoyed the World War III series by James Rosone and Miranda Watson and Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.

"We are all given a space in life to fill, a roaring emptiness in time… and it's how you choose to fill that void, that will determine the difference in becoming a man or a legend."
James was always in awe of his father's wisdom and advice. But his Father's words fell short until America was attacked from within, and he faced the decision to keep hiding alone in his Father's bunker tucked into the hills of Eastern Ohio or to fight back. Nearly two years after the first explosions, James unknowingly rescues his Father from an enemy convoy headed for the High School prison camp. Now, James and his group of teen fighters, The Risers, and a clan of hardened veterans plan to liberate their townspeople. But James soon realizes that his father isn't the kind and gentle man that he remembers. For James, the real battle will be choosing what's right in the face of all that is wrong.
