Fort Myers native brings public service background and civil law experience to support vulnerable seniors

FORT MYERS, Fla. - s4story -- Lee County Legal Aid Society has hired Kevin Sarlo as a staff attorney, expanding the organization's elder law practice and strengthening its ability to provide critical civil legal services to low-income residents across Lee County.

Sarlo, a Fort Myers native, earned his Bachelor of Arts in English literature, with a minor in classics, from the University of Notre Dame in 2012 before receiving his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 2016.

He began his legal career as an assistant public defender in Florida's 20th Judicial Circuit, representing individuals who could not afford legal counsel. He later transitioned to civil law and will now focus primarily on elder law at the Legal Aid Society, while also bringing experience in housing, consumer and bankruptcy law.

"Kevin's commitment to public service and his diverse legal experience make him a tremendous addition to our team," said Andrew Banyai, executive director of Lee County Legal Aid Society. "As demand for civil legal services continues to grow in our community, expanding our capacity with dedicated attorneys like Kevin ensures we can protect families, stabilize households and deliver on our mission of equal access to justice."

Since opening its doors in 1967, the organization has focused on protecting vulnerable residents by addressing the systemic barriers that prevent people from accessing the justice system. Its mission extends beyond casework, emphasizing compassionate advocacy, legal education and community engagement.

Through volunteer involvement, partnerships and programs that support at‑risk youth, families and individuals navigating housing instability, Lee County Legal Aid Society works to strengthen the well‑being and legal resilience of the broader community.
