A Love Story Spanning Forty-Three Years, Lee Barber's Getting to Grace is for the Hopeful
S For Story/10452369
DAYTON, Ohio - s4story -- Lee Barber's debut contemporary romance novel releasing December 4, Getting to Grace is a homage to boomers and a reminder that the romance of being fully alive is open to everyone, at any age.
As Lee Barber explains, "Grace Baxter is not a perfect person but she never gives up. Getting to Grace reminds us that we all have the capacity to be the heroes of our own life stories, to find our unique happy endings. Be like Grace. Let yourself fall in love again, whatever that means to you."
A perfect read to curl up with on a cold winter's day, the second chance romance will bring hope to anyone over fifty for their own happy ending, as well as appeal to anyone who likes to think about how people keep themselves away from love and how they finally allow themselves to have it. The warmth, relatability, and uplifting nature of the story make it a perfect read for book clubs. In fact, people in senior centers and assisted living might be encouraged to organize a group just for this book. Getting to Grace is a reminder that we're made to love, from the first breath to the last.
There's a spark when Sam and Grace meet in 1955. She's on her way to being a liberated woman. He will become a small-town attorney with a ladies'-man reputation. They meet again in 1962, but it will take until 1975 for their first date to materialize. After a surprisingly successful first date, a shocking revelation pushes Sam to retreat. Grace won't risk disappointment again. She avoids him for the next twenty-plus years, even though he only lives a side yard and a row of trees away. In 1998, the death of Grace's employer puts Grace and the arts community she helped nurture in jeopardy. Sam is determined to help. Grace resists, but desperation times, desperate measures. She accepts his assistance. Age has not dampened the spark between them. Grace allows herself to fall into his arms, unprotected, and he catches her, with vulnerability and love. All seems new and fresh for these sexagenarians, until the ultimate final betrayal. Will they be able to clear this final hurdle? Is there a happy ending for those who find love late in life?
