PORTLAND, Ore. - s4story -- The Imperfecta Gallery is excited to present Plight of the Pollinator, an installation by Portland-based artist Stephanie Brockway. On view June 4-28 2026, Plight of the Pollinator invites viewers to step into a fantastical garden where large floating mechanical bees remind us of the key role that pollinators play in our ecosystems.

With more than 3,500 native species, bees help increase crop yields. Scientists estimate that one out of every three bites of food we eat exists because of pollinators like bees, butterflies, moths, birds, bats, beetles and other insects.

As the artist explains: "Their contribution is significant! Imagine there is no such thing as weed. Everything blooming in your yard has a purpose, even dandelions! Beautiful, nutritious and an important source of nutrition, for both bees and humans. Never spray a flower where a bee will land. Consider alternatives like vinegar and salt. Let's work in harmony with nature  – and keep blooming!"

Made from found objects and oddities, including giant tin globes, metals, wood, glass & salvaged scraps, the bees in this installation are intentionally larger in scale, to make viewers feel smaller, while encouraging playful reflection and questioning.

The installation debuts on June 4, with an Opening Reception from 5 to 8pm.

Gallery Opening Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm – EXCEPT first Wednesdays (closed) and first Thursdays (open 5-8pm only).

The gallery is located at 809 NW Flanders st, Portland OR.
