Rotary District 7475 Opens Final Call for Student Exchange to Japan

High school students ages 15–17 in nine New Jersey counties have until May 15 to apply for Rotary's 2026 Short-Term Youth Exchange to Japan, a three-week cultural experience with Japan Rotary District 2670.

WEST ORANGE, N.J. - s4story -- Rotary District 7475 is inviting eligible high school students to apply for the 2026 Short-Term Youth Exchange to Japan, sponsored by Rotary District 7475 in partnership with Japan Rotary District 2670.

Now in its 48th year, the Short-Term Youth Exchange program has served thousands of students and families by creating meaningful international experiences, cultural understanding, and lifelong friendships.

The 2026 outbound trip to Japan will take place July 1–22, 2026. Students and Rotary leaders will depart from Newark Airport, arrive in Tokyo, and continue to the Osaka area before beginning a three-week cultural exchange experience.

Participants will explore major cities and cultural sites in southern Japan, including Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, and Shikoku. The trip includes a dedicated visit to Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park and Museum, along with opportunities to experience Japanese traditions, connect with local students, and stay with Japanese host families.

Unlike a traditional tour, Rotary's Short-Term Youth Exchange is designed to build goodwill and international understanding through real relationships, local hospitality, and community connection.

Eligible students must be high school students between the ages of 15 and 17 on July 1, 2026, and may not turn 18 until after July 22, 2026. Students must be nominated by a Rotary Club located in one of the nine counties represented by Rotary District 7475: Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union, or Warren.

Participation requires parent or guardian permission, completion of a student application and medical form, a virtual Zoom interview with STYE leaders, attendance at orientation, and a valid U.S. passport.

The cost of the trip is $4,500 all-inclusive, including airfare.

Applications are due on or before May 15, 2026.
