The Rise of the Anti-Agency: Why Smaller Teams Are Winning Bigger Clients
S For Story/10695812
Bons & Frazer launched under six months ago with just two founders, a fixed-fee model, and a deliberate rejection of how the marketing industry operates. Their clients are already noticing the difference.
NORWICH, U.K. - s4story -- Most marketing agencies sell growth. Bons & Frazer sells attention. Specifically, the undivided attention of the two people who founded it: Jamie Frazer, based in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, and Jake Bonham, based in Norwich, Norfolk.
The agency, which specialises in Google Ads, Meta Ads, and performance marketing for UK SMEs, launched less than six months ago. It already has a growing client base and results that larger agencies would put in a case study.
"We started Bons & Frazer the day we realised agencies were focused on optimising their own growth, not yours," says co-founder Jamie Frazer. "That's not a criticism — it's just the logical outcome of how most agencies are built. More clients, more staff, more overheads, and somewhere in the middle, the client becomes a line item."
Two people. 250 miles apart
Frazer and Bonham met on LinkedIn last year. Jake is from Norwich Norfolk, and Jamie from Barry in Wales.
"The distance has never been a barrier," says Bonham. "We speak throughout the day, pretty much every day. When you share the same work ethic, the same values, and the same frustrations with how the industry operates, it doesn't matter where you're sitting."
Those shared values run deeper than working style. Both founders built Bons & Frazer on a commitment to honesty and transparency that they felt was increasingly rare inside larger marketing organisations - with clients and with each other.

"We immediately bonded," says Bonham. "Both of us were sick of agencies overpromising and underdelivering. The personal touch got lost — too many people sporadically working on the same account. When you're trying to pick up from someone who's been managing a Google or Meta campaign and made changes without a clear handover, that creates real performance problems for the client."
The issue runs deeper than communication, Frazer argues. "A lot of agencies blur the reality with fancy reports and figures that aren't the true test of performance. ROAS may look great on a dashboard — but it's the actual profit generated from that ad spend that determines whether paid advertising is working. That's the only number that matters, and it's the one most agencies avoid talking about."
The solution was deliberate: build an agency where that problem is structurally impossible. At Bons & Frazer, every client account is handled personally by Frazer and Bonham. No handovers. No outsourcing. No dilution.
Happy Small Business Owners
Declan McCahill, Managing Director of AGD Surrey Ltd, became one of the agency's early clients. His assessment is unambiguous.
"Jake and Jamie have been absolutely incredible from day one," says McCahill. "Jake initially reached out to me about creating and managing our social media advertising, and the entire onboarding and setup process was seamless. Communication has been excellent throughout, and they made everything easy to understand and implement. Since then, they have taken care of all our advertising and the results have been outstanding. Our business continues to grow month after month, with a steady stream of quality enquiries coming in. They are worth every penny, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bons & Frazer to any business looking to grow through effective digital marketing."

Marketing That Works Now. Built for What's Coming Next.
The digital marketing landscape of 2026 is not the one that existed three years ago and the agencies that haven't kept up are quietly costing their clients money.
Google Ads changes on an almost monthly basis. New campaign types, AI-driven automation, conversion tracking updates, the deprecation of legacy formats, the platform that worked for a client twelve months ago may already be operating on outdated settings. Meta is evolving at the same pace, with AI-optimised delivery, new audience signals, and creative formats reshaping how ads reach people.
And that's before accounting for what's coming. ChatGPT is preparing to roll out advertising in the UK market. AI search, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews, Gemini, is already changing how potential customers find businesses before they ever reach a search results page. The agencies still optimising for 2022 are about to find out what that means for their clients.
Frazer and Bonham are not waiting to find out. "We test new channels on our own marketing first," says Frazer. "Before we recommend anything to a client, we've already run it ourselves. That's the only honest way to do it."
For Frazer and Bonham, the definition of success has nothing to do with the size of the agency and everything to do with the size of the impact. "Success for us is watching a business owner go from worrying about where the next lead is coming from, to not having to think about it at all," says Frazer. "That's the job. Everything else is noise."
