United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades partners with Foundation for Lee County Public Schools

FORT MYERS, Fla. - s4story -- With summer in full swing, United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades, along with the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools are celebrating Lee County teachers.

More than 320 teachers lined up around the Foundation offices in downtown Fort Myers recently and were showered with gifts as a show of appreciation for all that they do for Lee County students. Teachers left with air purifiers, office chairs, filing cabinets, seasonal decorations and more.

The event took place on June 10 at 7:30 a.m., though some teachers arrived as early as 4 a.m. for a chance to receive some of the more coveted items.

"It's overwhelming to hear some of their comments," said Hannah Pelle, Interim CEO of United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades. "They are just so thrilled to have extra items for their classroom and we're thrilled to help."

"All of them told me how much they appreciate what we do for them and how much we recognize just how important they are to the community," said Marshall Bower, President and CEO of the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools. "A lot of times you hear that teachers have to dig into their own pockets for supplies. That's true. It's something we want to help them with and get the supplies that they need."
