Visa Center Introduces RCMP Certificate for Panama Service for Canadians Relocating Abroad
S For Story/10698688
Toronto service coordinates fingerprint-based RCMP checks, apostilles and document preparation for use in Panama.
TORONTO - s4story -- Visa Center has introduced an RCMP Certificate for Panama service for Canadians preparing to apply for Panamanian residence. The service assists applicants with obtaining the Canadian criminal record certificate, arranging an apostille and preparing the document for submission in Panama.
Panama's National Immigration Service requires applicants to provide a criminal record certificate from their country of origin. The certificate must be properly apostilled or authenticated. Documents issued in a language other than Spanish may require translation by a public translator authorized in Panama.
Why an ordinary police check may not be accepted
Police checks are available in Canada. A name-based check issued for employment or volunteer purposes may not satisfy an immigration authority.
Canadians relocating to Panama may require a certified criminal record check based on fingerprints and processed through the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Applicants in Canada can have their fingerprints submitted through a police service or an RCMP-accredited fingerprinting company. Canadians abroad must follow a procedure involving paper fingerprints and an accredited Canadian provider.

"Many people assume that any Canadian police check can be used for immigration abroad," said Alexei Selivanov, owner of Visa Center in Toronto. "That mistake is often discovered only after the certificate has been issued. We help applicants obtain the appropriate RCMP document and complete the apostille process before it is submitted in Panama."
How the process works
Obtaining an RCMP Certificate for Panama involves:
Canada and Panama are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention. An eligible Canadian public document can therefore generally be prepared for use in Panama with an apostille rather than the former multi-stage authentication and consular legalization process.
Applicants should begin early
The RCMP certificate, apostille and translation are separate stages. Government processing, mailing and corrections can add significant time.

Applicants should confirm the requirements with their Panamanian immigration lawyer. Acceptable issue dates, translation procedures and supporting documents may differ depending on the residence category and the applicant's circumstances.
Visa Center does not provide Panamanian legal representation or guarantee approval of a residence application. Its service focuses on preparing the Canadian criminal record certificate for its intended international use.
