Award-Winning Artist and Activist Keris Lové Celebrates Young Poets at P.S. 106 in the Bronx
BRONX, N.Y. - s4story -- Acclaimed artist and activist Keris Lové will join forces with P.S. 106 in Parkchester to present "Voices Rising: From Classroom to Album & Beyond," a celebration of creativity, education, and empowerment through poetry.
As part of the school's English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum, fourth-grade students spent the first part of the school year engaged in an in-depth poetry module. To deepen their connection between classroom learning and real-world application, Keris Lové will speak to the students about the power of "Artivism" — the intersection of art and activism — and what it means to be a songwriter and storyteller in today's world.
Inspired by the students' engagement and talent, Keris launched a fourth-grade poetry contest. All fourth-grade students submitted original works, which will be evaluated based on creativity, craft, and application of skills learned through the ELA program. The June 4 assembly will recognize the top three poets — with a special surprise in store for the grand prize winner.

Keris Lové's upcoming album will feature the grand prize-winning poem set to be released later this year. The winner will receive professional writing credit and the unforgettable opportunity to record their poem in a studio session with Keris and her team.
"This project is about more than poetry — it's about amplifying young voices and showing students how their words can carry power, purpose, and possibility," said Lové. "These kids aren't just learning about poetry — they're becoming artists."
The event, which will take place at P.S. 106, 1514 Olmstead Avenue, Bronx, NY 10462, will include performances of the winning poems, special remarks from Keris Lové, and a celebration of student creativity. A highlight of the assembly will be a short video compilation of students sharing what they learned about poetry through the in-depth module, along with their inspirations and what poetry means to them personally. This video offers a heartfelt and insightful glimpse into the minds of these young writers.

The program will also include a behind-the-scenes look at the poetry-to-album process, providing attendees with a glimpse into how student work is transformed into a professional artistic project. Certificates and awards will be presented to all finalists as recognition of their creativity and hard work.
The event is expected to draw school families, local elected officials, and prominent community advocates, including guests such as Assemblywoman Karines Reyes, Senator Nathalia Fernandez, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, and activist Mysonne the General.
This collaboration reflects P.S. 106's commitment to culturally responsive education and Keris Lové's ongoing dedication to uplifting youth through music, mentorship, and social justice.
