Walk toward mental wellness 5K units Fort Myers community, raises $83,347
S For Story/10687533
FORT MYERS, Fla. - s4story -- NAMI Southwest Florida hosted the eighth annual Sunset Strides 5K on Saturday, March 14 in downtown Fort Myers.
This year, 589 walkers raised $83,347 which directly supports mental health education, crisis intervention, peer-led services, and vital community resources for those affected by mental illness.
Following an afternoon of live music, exhibits and presentations, the walk to mental wellness took a scenic sunset route from Fort Myers Centennial Park to the U.S. 41 Bridge and back.
"We are so thankful for everyone who walked toward mental wellness with us," said Vacharee Howard, CEO of NAMI Southwest Florida. "Showing up for each other and walking together symbolizes that no one walks alone in their mental health journey."
Participants walked in memory of a loved one or as a tribute to someone who has helped them in their journey. The annual event raises awareness and increases mental health literacy by educating walkers on the signs someone is struggling with their mental health and highlighting available resources for those in need.
