Film explores a founder's journey to build a clinical testing company rooted in transparency and integrity
TEANECK, N.J. - s4story -- 2nd Mile Films today announced a new cinematic documentary featuring Brian Ecclefield, founder of Validated Claim Support (VCS), chronicling his unconventional path into the clinical testing industry and the experiences that ultimately led him to build a company of his own.
After encountering practices, he believed compromised the integrity of the testing process, Ecclefield made the decision to walk away and, alongside business partner Jane Tervooren, build a laboratory centered on transparency and scientific integrity.
"I don't mind when people make mistakes," said Ecclefield. "We are only human and that's what makes us special. However, I have no tolerance for people brushing things under the rug or covering up mistakes. Your word is everything in this life, and trust is something that you only need to break once to ruin a relationship for life."
But shortly after VCS opened its doors in 2019, COVID-19 brought business to a sudden halt. What followed were years of financial uncertainty, mounting pressure and a fight to keep the young company alive.

"The early days were a struggle. No joke," said Tervooren. "It was just hand to mouth, praying that we could pay the bills. But I never, ever doubted that we were going to succeed."
Filmed on location at Validated Claim Support in Teaneck New Jersey, the documentary explores the setbacks, relationships and defining decisions that shaped both Ecclefield and the company he was determined to build.
"Brian's story is really about what happens when your principles are tested by reality," said Arash Farsi, co-founder and director of 2nd Mile Films. "He knew the kind of company he wanted to build. The real story is what it took to keep that vision alive when everything around him became uncertain."
The documentary is part of The 2nd Mile Collection, a series of cinematic founder documentaries exploring the perseverance, purpose and defining moments behind entrepreneurs and the companies they build.
