Andrea D. Price Releases Poetry Book
S For Story/10459308
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - s4story -- In a poetry chapbook that captures her culture, Andrea D. Price carefully weaves her Black and rural experiences with social justice and hope. She gives a modern take on what it means to live in rural American while demolishing the fallacy that rural and urban experiences are not connected.
Montongo, Arkansas is the small community where Price grew up. Montongo Roads is her way of paying homage to the culture that influenced her worldview of community, empathy, justice, hope, and love.
"I take Montongo with me everywhere I go. I wrote Montongo Roads in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Writing grounded me and reminded me never to forget the lessons I learned on the dirt roads of my childhood community," Price said.
Price acknowledges that the "Black in America" narrative is often associated with urban, but Black and rural experiences also need to be shared. She starts this book with some of her rural experiences, and then she moves to the pain she's felt from racial injustice. She closes the book with poems filled with hope.
