PITTSBURGH - s4story -- Pittsburgh, PA – Soulful and heartfelt singing comes naturally for Anthony Mitchell. From his musical roots in Memphis, Tennessee, and Buffalo, New York, as an adolescent, to his strong presence in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the message in the music is seasoned with resilience and faith. Lovingly called "Pops", Mitchell has been a musician and vocalist for over seventy years. He is the former lead singer of the 70's R and B group, "Samson and Delilah", and was blessed to work with Dionne Warwick, The O'Jay's, Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers, and other well-known musical artists.
In his 132-page memoir, Mitchell shares lessons about navigating the music industry, personal anecdotes from his life, tragedies that impacted him,  and how faith was the thread holding him together. He writes, "In my life's travels I have found it to be through the help of God, He has given me strength to do things that I never would have been able to accomplish if it weren't for His grace and mercy." The memoir leaves readers with the message, "You have to go through to get through."

Pops is committed to being a mentor and an advocate for musicians. He shares lessons for musicians such as, "be a pillar" and "love the music." He considers his work as director and spiritual leader for the Male Chorus at Mount Ararat Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William H. Curtis as one of his greatest accomplishments next to being a husband and father.
For over fifty years Pops has used his musical gifts in the church community as a tool to reach people and speak to their hearts. As a producer, songwriter, organist, arranger, lead, and backup singer, music is his ministry. He released an album in 2012 entitled, "Lord, Because of My Faith in You."
