ASSIST Software Becomes One of the First European Companies Certified to ISO/IEC 42001
S For Story/10699826
The software engineering company, headquartered in Romania with an office in Augsburg, Germany, joins a limited group of organizations independently certified against the world's first international standard for AI management systems.
s4story -- ASSIST Software has obtained ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, becoming one of the first European software development companies to complete an independent audit against the international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems.
The certification was awarded in May 2026 following an independent audit conducted by CERTINSPECT, an accredited certification body. Its scope covers ASSIST Software's core technical operations, including software development, IT infrastructure, support services, and research and development.
Published in late 2023, ISO/IEC 42001 is the first international management system standard created specifically for artificial intelligence. Adoption is still at an early stage, with relatively few organizations worldwide having completed an independent audit against its requirements.

"Achieving this certification signals to partners and clients that AI development at ASSIST Software is governed, auditable, and built to last," said Gheorghe David, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at ASSIST Software. "As AI becomes more deeply integrated into business-critical environments, technical capability must be supported by clear accountability, traceability, and structured risk management."
ISO/IEC 42001 addresses AI-specific governance challenges such as transparency, human oversight, changing data conditions, lifecycle controls, and post-deployment monitoring.
The standard complements frameworks such as ISO 27001 and can support organizations preparing for requirements under the EU AI Act. It does not replace legally required conformity assessments for high-risk AI systems.
The certification applies to ASSIST Software's commercial AI and software engineering work across operationally critical sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, finance, and telecommunications.
It also extends to the company's European research portfolio. ASSIST Software coordinates LLM4CIP, focused on large language models and digital twins for critical infrastructure resilience, and contributes to SECASSURED and DataPACT, which address cybersecurity assurance and accountable data and AI pipelines.

The framework also supports work developed through ASSIST Software's AI Center & Robotics Hub, including applied AI and physical AI solutions.
