At 70, Los Angeles Woman Recovering From Nerve Damage Seeks Help to Reunite With Family in Tennessee
S For Story/10684449
After a medical crisis and years of separation, Jonine Scott is asking for community support to remain housed, continue her recovery, and reunite with the grandchildren she misses deeply.
LOS ANGELES - s4story -- Los Angeles, CA — Jonine Scott, a 70-year-old Los Angeles resident, is recovering from severe nerve damage that dramatically changed her life. Once independent and self-sufficient, Scott temporarily lost her ability to walk and care for herself, forcing her to navigate a long and humbling recovery process marked by physical pain, uncertainty, and isolation.
While her health has slowly improved through determination and rehabilitation, the emotional toll of being separated from her family has been especially difficult. Scott's family—including her grandchildren—moved to Tennessee many years ago. Due to health challenges, limited income, and rising living expenses, she has been unable to travel or relocate to be with them. The distance has left her feeling isolated at a time when family connection matters most.
More on S For Story
Like many older adults recovering from medical crises, Scott faces not one single emergency, but a series of ongoing challenges. Medical costs, basic living expenses, and the realities of living on a fixed income have made it difficult to regain long-term stability. Despite these obstacles, she has returned to school to refresh her skills and work toward supporting herself again—proving that resilience and growth do not have an age limit.
Scott's goal is simple but deeply meaningful: to remain housed, continue healing, and be reunited with her family while she still has the chance.
"This isn't about luxury or comfort," Scott says. "It's about connection, dignity, and being with the people who mean everything to me."
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover basic living expenses, recovery-related costs, and to support Scott as she works toward reuniting with her family in Tennessee. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps reduce the stress of daily survival and allows her to focus on healing and rebuilding her life.
