ASHEVILLE, N.C. - s4story -- Long before KayeDinero was writing Python, building financial-market tools or producing music, she was learning another system built around patterns, decisions and consequences.

Chess.

The Asheville-based artist is set to release her new single "Checkmate" today, turning a lifelong relationship with the game into the latest chapter of her growing catalog.

"My father taught me how to play chess," KayeDinero said. "That stayed with me. I joined chess club in middle school and high school, and I still play competitively today."

The Timing Couldn't Be Better

"Checkmate" arrives while chess is having a major global moment.

The 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad is currently underway in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, bringing national teams from around the world together through Sept. 27. The 2026 event includes a record number of women's teams.

Online chess is booming too. Chess.com reported more than 267 million members and 10.2 million average daily active users during the second quarter of 2026.

KayeDinero understands the attraction.

"Chess teaches you to think beyond the move you're making right now," she said. "You're asking what happens next, what your opponent sees, what they don't see and what you're willing to sacrifice."

From Chessboard to Studio

That mindset appears throughout KayeDinero's unusually multidisciplinary career.

Her work now spans music production, Python, software development, financial analytics, TradingView tools and aerial cinematography.

She sees a common thread.

"Music has patterns. Markets have patterns. Code has logic. Chess has all of it," KayeDinero said. "You learn to recognize structure and still be ready when somebody does something you didn't expect."

Recent releases including Human Error, Kulture Metrics, "Pipeline Developer," "Cass Tech" and "French Broad" have increasingly exposed different pieces of the person behind the artist name.
