SANTA MONICA, Calif. - s4story -- Pivoting from employee to entrepreneur, former showroom manager of The Sofa Company and Recliners LA, Laura Lahr started her own, new business 12 days prior to the mandatory coronavirus California stay-at-home orders. Renamed Betty's Place in honor of her grandmother, the store is located in the same Santa Monica showroom it has been for 25 years, at 2314 Lincoln Blvd.

December 2019, after 25 years in business The Sofa Company and Recliners LA closed shop. On the verge of being unemployed, the closure meant more than just losing her job, but the loss of doing what she is passionate about - interior design and the satisfaction of going the extra mile to help her clients create their vision. Lahr takes pride in finding the perfect mix of comfort, style and design to fit any need.

Having retained the same craftsmen, seamstresses and vendors as The Sofa Company and Recliners LA, Betty's Place offers high-quality, built-to-last, locally custom hand-crafted furniture. The 7,000-sf showroom features a beautiful collection of custom sofas, sectionals, chairs, reclining furniture, the most comfortable sofa sleepers made, office chairs, and medical lift chairs.

As no one knew this was coming, purchasing or starting a new business at the start of 2020 was a gutsy and bold move for any entrepreneur, especially for mom-and-pop small independent business owners.

"I opened my store on Mar. 7, 2020, 12 days before this global pandemic which forced the temporary closure of my new business. Faced with this daunting challenge, I swiftly adapted to the complexity of the changing landscape and began implementing new business procedures taking all necessary measures to provide a clean and safe environment, also offering private appointments, as well as taking fabrics, etc. to customers houses and dropping them off for them to see in person without having to come into the store when some were concerned with going out in public too much." -Laura Lahr, owner of Betty's Place

Though restrictions have been lifted and vaccines are now being rolled out, the top priority remains the health, well-being and safety for Betty's Place associates and customers. Lahr continues to be diligent in taking extra precautions to ensure the implementation of strict covid-19 safety protocols which include social distancing, daily cleaning and sanitation, frequent disinfecting of hard surfaces and common areas, safer non-contact delivery practices, scheduled private in-person consultations along with the shop's appropriate mask wearing requirement.
