California: Governor Newsom appointed co-chair of U.S. Climate Alliance
S For Story/10658937
~ Sacramento, California - In a move to combat climate change and promote sustainable practices, Governor Gavin Newsom has been appointed co-chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance. The bipartisan coalition, consisting of 24 governors, is dedicated to achieving a net-zero carbon pollution future in America by advancing state-led, high-impact climate action.
Governor Newsom will serve alongside Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers on the alliance's executive committee, overseeing the strategic direction of the coalition. This appointment comes at a crucial time as the federal government has retreated from the climate fight, leaving states to take charge.
"Americans want cleaner air and water, lower costs, and healthier communities - and that's exactly what Alliance governors are delivering," said Governor Newsom. "As co-chair of this coalition, I look forward to partnering with my fellow governors to keep America on track."
The U.S. Climate Alliance represents nearly 60% of the U.S. economy and 55% of the population. Governor Newsom and Governor Evers were chosen as co-chairs by the coalition's members and will serve a one-year term. The executive committee also includes New York Governor Kathy Hochul (outgoing co-chair), Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, and Washington Governor Bob Ferguson.

This recent appointment follows Governor Newsom's announcement in March that he will also serve as co-chair of America Is All In - a coalition supporting climate efforts at the subnational level. With these roles, Governor Newsom is taking a strong stance on addressing climate change and promoting sustainable practices.
In other news, Governor Newsom announced several appointments today including Gena Castro Rodriguez to the Board of State and Community Corrections. Castro Rodriguez brings years of experience as an owner of Castro Rodriguez Consulting since 2025.
Additionally, in light of Pope Leo XIV being elected as the first American Pope, Governor Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom issued a statement congratulating him. They join countless others in celebrating this historic moment.
Lastly, Governor Newsom announced that businesses statewide are nearly universally compliant with California's regulations banning the sale of intoxicating hemp products. This is a significant step in protecting youth from harmful substances and promoting responsible business practices.
Governor Newsom's appointments and actions demonstrate his commitment to promoting a sustainable future for California and the nation. As co-chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance, he will work alongside other governors to lead the charge in addressing climate change and creating a healthier environment for all.
