DALLAS - s4story -- In celebration of National Literacy Month, debut author Derek Amarillas marked the success of his first children's book, Socko the Flamingo with Tennis Shoes, with a mission rooted in giving back. Amarillas launched an initiative to donate copies of his debut title to schools and libraries across communities, helping to inspire a love of reading and increase access to books worldwide.

"Books open doors and create opportunities," says Amarillas. "I wanted my debut to mean more than just sharing Socko's story. It is about making sure children everywhere have the chance to discover the magic of reading. Supporting schools and libraries is my way of helping young readers chase their dreams."

Socko the Flamingo with Tennis Shoes introduces children ages 4–8 to Socko, a spirited flamingo who laces up his tennis shoes and dares to be different. With themes of bravery, individuality, and perseverance, the story is a joyful celebration of courage and chasing dreams even when standing out from the crowd.

On September 6, Amarillas hosted a Literacy Month donation event at the Dallas Public Library, where he personally donated copies of Socko the Flamingo with Tennis Shoes to local schools and libraries. The event highlighted his commitment to ensuring every child has access to books that inspire imagination, courage, and self-expression.
