Last year, almost 90 percent of Canadians supported stronger plastics regulations, with 70 percent favouring a ban on single-use plastics. In the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, support for more robust rules has fallen to 79 percent, while flat-out ban support dropped to 58 percent.

Experts say grocers could set a standard size or weight for reusable containers that customers could bring and fill themselves for foods requiring some boxes.
