Female Farmer Wins Awards for Goat Cheese in First Year

STATESVILLE, N.C. - s4story -- Nestled in the hills of Iredell County, a small farm is making a big name for itself in the world of artisan cheese. White Tree Farm, owned and operated by Heather Goforth, has become the region's first goat cheese producer—and it's already winning awards and fans across the Southeast.
In its very first year of operation, White Tree Farm earned **First Place for Fresh Cheese of the Year** in both the *Got To Be NC Dairy Competition* and the *Southeast Farmstead Dairy Products Competition*. These victories have placed the small farm at the forefront of the region's growing local food movement.
Heather Goforth's journey began with a few goats, a love of farming, and a dream to create something unique. She now raises her goats on the farm, handcrafts every batch of cheese, and oversees every detail of production.
"Our process is personal," says Heather. "Every goat has a name. Every wheel of cheese has a story. We don't just make food—we make connections."
The farm's flagship product is a soft, tangy chevre known for its smooth texture and clean, fresh taste. In addition to the original, White Tree Farm produces herb-blended and seasonal varieties in small batches.

White Tree Farm cheese is now available at select wineries, gourmet markets, and specialty food stores throughout North and South Carolina. Customers can also find retail locations and upcoming events online at www.ncwhitetreefarm.com.
In addition to running a successful cheese business, Heather is dedicated to education and community outreach. White Tree Farm hosts on-site tours, cheese-making demonstrations, and collaborates with culinary schools and food educators.
"There's power in knowing where your food comes from," says Heather. "When people visit the farm and taste the cheese, they connect to the story behind it."
As a female entrepreneur in agriculture, Heather is proud to be part of a growing wave of women shaping the future of food. Her approach combines traditional methods with a focus on sustainability and local impact.
Though running a farm and cheese business comes with its challenges, Heather says the rewards far outweigh the effort.
"Some days are long. Some are hard. But when someone tells me this is the best cheese they've ever tasted, it makes it all worth it."
Looking ahead, White Tree Farm plans to expand with an online shop for nationwide shipping. For now, their award-winning cheeses remain a regional treasure—with national potential.
