NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - s4story -- Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS) students recently celebrated Socktober, a friendly competition between classrooms to see who can collect the most new socks and personal hygiene products to donate to local homeless shelters.

"Our students are active participants in the community we serve and are excited to reach out to help meet needs here," said Stephen Furtado Jr., Executive Director of GLCPS. "Our students take on the task of being part of the bigger culture and community of our city. They are enthusiastic in their goal to help others in need and we commend them for their activism."

Open to New Bedford residents, Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS) is a tuition-free public charter school that currently serves 500 students in grades 5-12. Launched in 2002 as a Horace Mann charter school, GLCPS became a Commonwealth charter school in 2006.
