CARMEL, Calif. - s4story -- Carmel Guitar Society will present GRAMMY Award-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux on Friday, Oct. 23, at Founders Theatre in Carmel-by-the-Sea, bringing one of the world's leading classical guitarists to the Monterey Peninsula just weeks after the release of his deeply personal new album, Gratitude.

The concert marks the finale of Carmel Guitar Society's 2026 concert series and the nonprofit's first presentation at Founders Theatre, the 290-seat auditorium at the historic Golden Bough Playhouse. The venue reopened in 2024 following an extensive renovation that brought updated lighting, accessibility improvements and other upgrades to one of Carmel's long-standing performing arts spaces.

Praised by NPR as "perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation," Vieaux has built an international career distinguished by technical command, expressive range and an ability to connect classical guitar with audiences well beyond the traditional concert hall.

His Carmel appearance follows the Sept. 18 release of Gratitude on Azica Records, Vieaux's 10th solo album and his first devoted entirely to his own compositions. Written between 2016 and 2026, the music reflects a particularly personal chapter in the guitarist's life and reveals another dimension of an artist long recognized as a master interpreter and performer.

A winner of the 2015 GRAMMY Award for Best Classical Instrument Solo for his album Play, Vieaux has performed at major venues and with orchestras worldwide, including appearances at Lincoln Center, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and Seoul Arts Center. The New York Times has described his playing as "virtuosic, flamboyant, dashing and, sometimes, ineffably lyrical."

Vieaux is also a longtime educator. He co-founded the guitar department at the Curtis Institute of Music and has taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music for more than 25 years. His online guitar school through ArtistWorks reaches students internationally.

For Carmel Guitar Society, the Oct. 23 concert reflects the nonprofit's mission of presenting exceptional artists, expanding access to live performance and music education, and supporting a vibrant arts community in Monterey County. Founded in 1961, the organization presents professional concerts, educational and community outreach, workshops and initiatives including The Healing Guitar.
