humAIn launches as indie media and events platform to help Australian marketing industry navigate AI
S For Story/10693891
SYDNEY - s4story -- After three years under the Unmade and Mumbrella mastheads, humAIn is launching as an independent media and events platform, expanding beyond its flagship conference into year-round journalism and analysis continuing to build the community of practice that has made the event so impactful to date.
Founded by journalist and strategist Cat McGinn in 2023, humAIn has become one of Australia's leading forums for discussion of artificial intelligence across media and creative industries.
The move comes at a time when AI adoption has become widespread, but many organisations still lack a shared understanding of how the technology should be governed and integrated.
"The industry doesn't have an AI access problem. It has an AI leadership problem," said McGinn.
"Individual adoption is accelerating, but leadership isn't keeping pace. People are making decisions about technology, creativity, risk, talent and investment without a common language for thinking about these issues.
"We're seeing extraordinary innovation and creativity, but it is happening in isolation."

The next phase of humAIn will include the launch of humAIn Media, a dedicated platform covering Australian AI news, commentary and industry developments through a regular newsletter.
Joining McGinn is former Mumbrella/Unmade Chief of Staff Belinda Cusack, who will help lead the growth of the platform as Head of Marketing Operations.
Together, McGinn and Cusack bring experience spanning journalism, publishing, events, marketing and community building, having helped shape some of Australia's most influential media and marketing conversations over the past few years.
Alongside the media platform, humAIn will return as an independent live event in Sydney this October.
The move to independence creates greater flexibility to design conversations specifically for practitioners navigating AI transformation. While public discussion around AI has expanded rapidly, many of the most valuable conversations continue to happen privately.
"Operating independently gives us the freedom to create more off-the-record discussions, more peer-to-peer learning and more opportunities for people to share lessons, challenges and experiences that might never be discussed publicly," McGinn said.

A new focus for humAIn 2026 will be strengthening connections between Australia's startup ecosystem and its creative industries.
While founders are building the technologies transforming the industry, many marketing and creative leaders are grappling with how to adopt, govern and create value from them.
humAIn will bring these communities together through curated conversations designed to encourage peer learning, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The goal is simple: help the people building the future spend more time with the people responsible for implementing it.
The October event will bring together leaders from marketing, media, creative industries, technology, startups and innovation to explore the opportunities and tensions emerging as AI moves from experimentation to infrastructure.
Further details will be announced shortly. www.humain.au
