'I'm a professional caterer - here's the secret to hosting an effortless Christmas party'
S For Story/10676905
With the festive season fast approaching, many of us are thinking about Christmas parties - but the idea of hosting one can feel overwhelming.Jasmine Savery, caterer & founder of Savery Grazing, shares her tips for hosting a relaxed Christmas party.
CHESTERFIELD, U.K. - s4story -- Jasmine, caterer and founder of Savery Grazing, says:
"Christmas parties don't have to be complicated. With a few simple touches, thoughtful planning, and the right food and drink, you can create a festive atmosphere that feels special without keeping you in the kitchen all night."
Send Invites Out Early - and Encourage Guests To RSVP
"Sending invitations early is key, especially when planning food and drinks," Jasmine explains. "Knowing your guest numbers in advance allows you to prepare the right quantities of canapés, drinks, and nibbles, and ensures everything runs smoothly on the day. Even a simple digital invite sent in October or early November gives you plenty of time to plan a stress-free, perfectly stocked Christmas gathering."

Keep Drinks Simple, But Festive
"For drinks, less is often more. Set up a self-serve station with a few well-chosen options. Mulled wine in a slow cooker, prosecco on arrival, and a batch-made cocktail like espresso martinis are great crowd-pleasers. Don't forget non-alcoholic options, and add little touches like rosemary sprigs or cranberries to make drinks feel festive."
Avoid Sit-Down Meals - Serve Canapés Instead
"Instead of a formal sit-down dinner, opt for drinks and canapés," Jasmine advises. "Most canapés can be prepared well in advance, which saves stress on the day and keeps guests mingling. Aim for 3–4 bite-sized items per person, per hour."
Stock Up on Hosting Essentials
"Make sure you've got enough glassware, napkins, serving trays, and utensils. We keep a few boxes of inexpensive IKEA prosecco flutes in the shed specifically for occasions like this! For plates and cutlery, second-hand shops or Facebook Marketplace are great ways to pick up extra sets without breaking the bank."

Jasmine adds, "Keep all your hosting essentials together in a 'party cupboard'. This saves me so much last-minute stress and ensures you're ready for spontaneous gatherings throughout the year!"
Plan the Flow of the Evening Ahead Of Time
"Welcome drinks should be ready on arrival, canapés served in waves rather than all at once, and any activities introduced midway once everyone's had a chance to mingle. A quick tidy-up halfway through - topping up ice, throwing out any rubbish, and clearing glasses - keeps the party running smoothly, and makes the next-day-tidy-up far less overwhelming!"
