Indie Bookstore Supports Community, Gives Away Books
S For Story/10452136
REDONDO BEACH, Calif. - s4story -- Despite overwhelming odds - including a global pandemic and competition from a company called Amazon - Redondo Beach bookstore Creating Conversations continues to wave their indie bookstore flag high, hoping that the South Bay will support small businesses like theirs during the 2020 Holiday Season.
Since 2014, Creating Conversations has been known as more of a pop-up bookstore, featuring curated titles, signed first editions, book-ish gift items, and popular local programming, including Ladies, Lunch & Literacy, Smart Summer Reads, and Books are Better Shared. When the pandemic started, they placed a cart outside their door with free books for the community. They've given away hundreds of books while expanding their store to create a safe environment for shopping.
Long-time Manhattan Beach resident and Creating Conversations owner Terry Gilman: "We do not know when the events portion of our business will return, so we've had to pivot toward our bookstore and online sales. Our small, curated shop is a reflection of our events and includes books and gifts that we've discovered and want to share." Gilman has been part of the bookselling community for 30 years and is passionate about sharing her love of books.

During the holiday season, the store is giving back to the community by partnering with the Richstone Family Center, supporting their Parents as Teachers program and drive-thru holiday event by collecting items for their holiday gift bags. They're also offering deep discounts to their shoppers, and of course, continuing to provide their popular free book cart outside their front door.
Creating Conversations is open Monday - Saturday from 1 pm – 5 pm through December 10th, with all pandemic shopping protocols in place. Customers can also contact the store to arrange for individual shopping outside of regular hours. After December 10th, readers can continue to place orders on their website for print, audio, & eBooks.
