Larson-Danielson Delivers Upgraded Town Hall and Fire Facilities for Chesterton

CHESTERTON, Ind. - s4story -- Larson-Danielson Construction announces the completion of the Town of Chesterton Town Hall and Fire Department renovation. The project modernizes two essential municipal operations that support town services and first responders.
Larson-Danielson was awarded the project in April 2025 and construction began in May 2025. The project focused on updating infrastructure to meet current operational needs while positioning the community for long-term success.
The renovated Town Hall reopened to the public at the end of 2025. The project updated the mid-20th-century building through careful coordination and planning. Improvements include upgraded audio-visual technology, seating for up to 100 people, new restrooms, refreshed interior finishes, and a flexible community room for public meetings, training and events.
"Working within an older building always presents challenges," said David Merkel, Vice President of Larson-Danielson. "Strong coordination and a solutions-driven approach allowed our team to deliver a space that balances modern functionality with the character of the original structure,"

Improvements to the Chesterton Fire Department included a 1,730-square-foot addition and interior renovations to support daily operations and firefighter readiness. Updates include additional bunk rooms, new restroom facilities, a training room, updated living and office areas, a redesigned kitchen and rec room, and an upgraded fitness space to support firefighter health and wellness.
The project was completed through close collaboration between the Town of Chesterton, Kil Architecture & Planning, town engineering staff and Larson-Danielson, with a focus on quality, cost control and on-site oversight. A public open house and ribbon cutting on Jan. 26 allowed residents to view the improvements firsthand.
"Projects like this are about supporting the people who serve the community every day," Merkel said. "We're proud to partner with the Town of Chesterton to deliver facilities that improve operations, enhance accessibility, and provide long-term value for residents and first responders."
