Legendary Blues Artist Stevie Hawkins Releases Re-imagined Rendition of Leon Russell's Classic, "A Song For You"

Stevie Hawkins pays an emotional tribute to a timeless classic, featuring a masterful fusion of blues and soul with a powerful new interpretation of the iconic ballad.
ATLANTA - s4story -- Grammy-recognized artist and Blues Hall of Fame "Legendary Blues Artist" inductee Stevie Hawkins returns with a deeply emotional and soul-infused rendition of Leon Russell's timeless ballad, 'A Song For You.' Originally released in 1970, the classic track is reimagined by Hawkins through a lens of heartfelt blues and rich musical history—one that includes his own time playing drums for Russell in the 1970s and mid-1980s.
A passionate tribute and full-circle moment, Hawkins' version captures both the vulnerability of the original and the raw power of his own signature style. With gravel-toned vocals and expressive drumming, Hawkins breathes new life into the beloved song, delivering a performance that is as intimate as it is timeless.

"I've always felt a deep connection with several of Leon's songs—and with Leon himself," Hawkins shares. "Playing drums for him in the '70s and again in the '80s was an incredible honor. Leon was a true genius, and 'A Song For You' has always touched me in ways words can't fully describe. My goal with this recording was to honor the spirit of the original while bringing my own blues-infused soul to it—both vocally and on drums. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out."
The track was mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Howie Weinberg and features an accomplished lineup of musicians, including Levi Adelman on piano, renowned bassist, Rusty Holloway, and stirring horn and string arrangements by the Loudermilk Chambers Ensemble. Together, they create a lush, emotionally resonant soundscape that supports Hawkins' evocative performance.
The release follows the success of Hawkins' recent single, 'You Left Me With A Heartquake,' which earned widespread critical acclaim and terrestrial radio airplay, further solidifying his reputation as one of the genre's most respected and innovative voices.
