Gripping new novel about a young girl dealing with mental health issues
"Sophie's Destiny" by June Harwood-Brown is published
About the book:
When Sophie is cleaved from her family, her home and the secure and happy life she has ever known, her world falls into chaos.
She clings to her mother for love and reassurance, but her mother has become a stranger to her, and Sophie's young mind is overwhelmed by emotions that are beyond her endurance.
Under the autocratic rule of her despotic grandfather, experiencing neglect, and being subjected to inexplicable happenings within the old house, Sophie's mental state sadly slips into decline.
Her courage serves her well in the battle with an alter personality, the struggle of life, and the pursuit of her own destiny.
The author, June Harwood-Brown, published another novel which has received critical acclaim about a young girl who, faced with adversity and battling against the odds, embarks on a treacherous journey to return home.

Excerpt from the book:
"Eight-year-old Sophie lay in the dark listening to the vacuous silence, in a state of heightened alert. The room next door, her parents' room, was now soundless, but the residue of urgent whispers, heated exchanges and fragmentary noises remained in her head like echoes.
The quietness held an expectant quality, and was broken only by the gentle snoring of her two sleeping sisters in the beds alongside her own. The blankets of each bed were tightly drawn up to reveal no more than the glimpse of sleep-tousled hair.
The luminous hands of the bedside clock read five a.m.
Why would her parents have been awake and whispering at such an early hour?
This was panicky, raspy whispering, not the sort of whispering performed behind a cupped hand.
Something was wrong, Sophie knew it, and a ripple of trepidation ran through her.
The crisp air slithered over her making her shiver, and her skin stood in tiny rigid peaks, raising a rash of gooseflesh on her arms. The night had ushered in a frosty morning and the iciness hung motionless in the room, making the stillness complete."
