Lisa Slaton's "Redemption Through Forgiveness" Discusses Disassociative Identity Disorder and God
S For Story/10387307
Lisa Slaton's novel is a spiritual memoir that explores her mental illness, past trauma and abuse, and her relationship with God and her mother.
WAUKEGAN, Ill. - s4story -- Diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder and other mental illnesses, Lisa created personalities as a child to help her survive trauma and abuse. As an adult, she finally meets her alters and finds that they are Christian alters whom God will use to help her understand His great love and mercy toward her. It is when God gives Lisa one of the most difficult challenges of her life – forgiving the person she hates most in the world, her mother – that she learns how to accept God's forgiveness and salvation.
This book has a unique take on multiple personality disorder as the alternative personalities Lisa develops are Christians. Through them, God portrays His love and mercy toward the author and sets her on a path of self-reflection and healing. Emotional and thoughtful, Slaton explores her complex relationship to God and forgiveness with candor and hope. Redemption Through Forgiveness will appeal to a wide array of adults, especially those who are Christians, those who have been through abuse and those with mental illnesses.
